Clepington Primary School, Dundee
Dundee City Council required access to the roof of Clepington Primary School to carry out roofing repairs after leaks appeared following a bout of bad weather. The scaffold was a tall scaffold construction, standing at 7 storeys high and as tools and materials were required to be carried to the top of the scaffold a stair access was provided. The project also required a quick turnaround as all works were to be completed and cleared over the Dundee School holidays.
Scaffolding in Dundee should also aim to minimise disruption on the ground.

Pentland Crescent, Dundee
As part of Dundee City Councils remediation programme to council housing scaffolding was required to be erected across Dundee to allow roofers to carry out repair works on a number of tenement blocks. Shown here is one section of scaffolding in Dundee, showing the working lift at the gutter height of the structure and also a waste chute to allow the trades working on the roof to safely discard any waste produced down to a skip on the ground elevation without posing a hazard to residents walking nearby.

Albert Street, Dundee
Perimeter scaffold was erected to all elevations of flats located on Albert Street/Victoria Road junction to allow Bell Group to safely replace the windows on all elevations. The scaffold was on a prominent street in Dundee and required access to be maintained on the footpath underneath the scaffold for pedestrians, with padding secured to the standard legs to protect members of the public.
This project required scaffolding in Dundee with minimal disruption on the ground.

Caird Hall, Dundee
The Caird hall is the main centre for events and functions in Dundee and is located directly in the city square. IAS Dundee ltd provided the scaffolding to carry out remedial works to the building. Seen here is a section of the scaffold showing a ladder access tower and a section of scaffold beamed over a stairway entrance to the courtyard to ensure pedestrian access was maintained through the stairwell at all times throughout the works.

Student Accommodation, Causewayend, Aberdeen
Shown here is a scaffold erected for Robertson Construction to construct new student accommodation blocks at Causewayend, Aberdeen. The exterior scaffold face is covered in netting to minimise noise and dust produced from the construction activities from interacting with the public as they walk by. The photo also shows the provision of a loading bay, with a scaffold crash deck underneath to catch any falling materials and act as an enhancing barrier of safety.

Tayside House, Dundee
The oldest photo in the IAS collection but a flagship project that was carried out in 2011. The scaffold fully encapsulated the old home of Dundee City Council, Tayside House. As part of the of Dundee City Councils Waterfront re-development project the tower was to be demolished to construct Slessor Gardens, a new open garden music venue. The scaffolding fully surrounded the 18-storey building and allowed for piecemeal demolition of the structure.

The Cross, Forfar
Scaffold was required for remedial works to the windows and roof of the existing property. Debris netter was utilised to prevent small fragments of debris from projecting from the working platforms and entering the public domain. This alongside the use of a protective crash deck ensured that the passing public of Forfar were safe throughout the works.

Arbroath
Another project by IAS Dundee to allow a roofing contractor safe access to the roof of the property to carry out maintenance and repair works. Another scaffold that required access to the public to be maintained and for pedestrians to be protected by utilising a protective crash deck.

Cala Homes - New Housing Project, Aberdeen
A new housing complex currently constructed in Inverurie near Aberdeen by Cala Homes. The site is a large-scale housing project constructing a high-quality housing scheme – which in turn required high quality scaffolding. Our galvanised Kwikstage system scaffold was highly regarded by the client.

Insulated Render Systems - Exterior Wall Insulation, Dundee
Currently across Scotland Exterior Wall Insulation is being provided to existing council houses by SSE. Here the client, Insulated Render Systems are carrying out the work and this photo shows one of their large scale EWI project at Moncur Crescent, Dundee at the top of the Hilltown. Here we provide a safe working platform to 4 blocks of council flats so that insulation boards can be fixed to the exterior face of the existing walls before they are covered in fresh render. This is part of SSE’s project to increase the insulation levels on council properties and reduce heating costs of the customers.

Dundee and Angus College - Window Replacement
One of the largest projects IAS have completed recently was the project by Esk Glazing to replace every window on the Dundee and Angus College, Dundee. The 7-storey structure’s perimeter was fully surrounded in scaffolding whilst maintaining access to the building for students and staff. The project was clearly visible from Dundee’s main through road the Kingsway.

Domestic Home Extension - Newtyle
Shown here is a standard scaffold erected for a two-storey home extension in Newtyle, Angus. This photo shows a classic residential scaffold project carried out for the homeowner to allow the private tradesmen to carry out their work.

Local Roofing Contractor Works
Shown here is scaffolding set up for a local roofing contractor, McLean Roofing. This was a full perimeter scaffold on the tower of an old Victorian house with the ladder bays through the scaffold and complete with a ginwheel at the top working lift.

Emergency Repairs at RBS - Forfar
Following a period of high winds emergency repairs were reuired to fix the exterior cladding on the RBS building in Forfay. This required us to act on short notice to ensure the scaffold was erected in order to prevent an accident. IAS aim to respond to emergency works in 24hours as safety is one of our core values.

Robertson Creative Exchange Perth
Robertson Construction Tayside are carrying out works to convert an old school to a new Community Hub in Perth, knows as the Creative Exchange. IAS provided the scaffoilding for the project which proved rather complex due to the lack of available space on site and the beamed sections required to provide access across weak roofs, 750mm X-Beam are just visible to the right of the photo.

Procast - EWI Project - Broughty Ferry
IAS cover multiple Exterior Wall Insulation projects at one time. Shown here is a fully boarded scaffold from the Procast project in Broughty Ferry, with stair access to the rear and ladder access on the fron for emergency fire escape. The project involved the progressive construction of 52 scaffolds to carry out the works to council properties in the area.

NOV - Montrose, Temporary Habitat
A temporary habitat installed at Montrose for NOV Completion and Production Systems. The scaffold here is sheeted with a sheeted beam system to provide a temporary roof, allowing works to be carried out regardless of incliment weather.

DDC - Ancrum Primary School
Scaffolding erected at Ancrum Primary School allowing Dundee Council to carry out maintenance works. These works were erected to allow the works to be carried out over a short timeframe with the scaffold erect and dismantle carried out during the School holiday period.

Scaffolding erected on Castle Street in Dundee City centre to allow a local property developer to develop the existing, unused building into new flats.

Invertay Homes - Seagate Development
A new development of Housing Association being constructed in Dundee City Centre at the Seagate. This project involved a large sale scaffold within an enclosed area with a close interaction with the general public. Our health and safety standards were key to constructing this scaffold safely.

A scaffold fully surrounding a property in Aberdeen to allow the installation of Exterior Wall Insulation. The photograph shows a scaffold that allows access to all elevations, including the high gable with access to the chimney.

H Samuel - Dundee City Centre
Access scaffold to allow the painting of the exterior at H Samuel Jewellers in Dundee City Centre. The scaffolding team managed to work in the scaffold bays around the large, existing clock protruding from the building whilst maintaining safe public access through the scaffolding.

St Paul's Church - Perth
One of our current flagship projects is the refurbishment of St Pauls Church for Hadden Construction in Perth. This project hosted a number of challenges. Due to the unknown condition of the existing structure many problems had to be overcome as they appeared. This was where the years of experience across the managemnt team and the inhouse engineering department proved to be vital for the quick turnaround of solutions and revised design drawings to overcome the obstacles faced to maintain progress on the project.

System scaffold utilised as roof edge protection, with a walkway allowing the roofer to walk off the roof and to the end of the scaffold to deposit waste into a skip in Monifieth High Street for local roofing contractor.

An aerial drone shot of a recent EWI project carried out in Dundee. The photo shows the magnitude of work that can be carried out by IAS, having erected 33 full 4 in a block properties at once, having fully erected the scheme in one continuous operation allowing unbroken progress on the site.

Dundee House
One of our recent, large scale projects carried out at Dundee House in Dundee City Centre. The scaffold posed the additional engineering requirements of having no weight applied to the roof to allow full works to be carried out without the scaffolding imposing a load on the roof and obstructing works. The engineering department designed a series of cantilevered beams that were self supported by the perimeter scaffolding.

A scaffold erect for local builder, RAB Stone to allow the stonemason access to pick and point the front elevation of the property along with the chimney.

Prince Charles Wharf - Cantilever Scaffold
A particulary interesting project that required a singificant level of design input and correspondence from our client. We were required to provide a working and access platform, cantilevered 3.5m over the River Tay to allow a Percussion Coring Rig to borehole into the bed of the River Tay. The scaffolding was required to be self supporting, with counter-balances in place to resist over turning whilst also resisting the movement effects of the coring rig.

Clark Contracts - St Andrews
A scaffold erected in in the centre of St Andrews to allow for window replacement and other remedial works to the Buchanan Building. This project posed some logistical issues due to the adjacent narrow roads that were live bus routes.

EWI Project - Oban
A project that was further a field than normal but showing will we travel almost anywhere and provide a quality service! SHown here we are erecting scaffolding to various flatted blocks in Oban to allow for the isntallation of exterior wall insulation and for re-roofing works.

Cosmos Projects - Eden Mill Boiler House
A project that proved particularly challenging and required significant design input. Access and roof edge protection was required to span a fragile asbestos roof at the old Boiler House, Eden Mill in Guardbridge. As the roof was not structurally sound we could not build off the roof as standard - as a result we constructed the beamed sections on the ground and fixed into place by lifting the beams into position via crane. The span on the beams was 21m - the longest span achieved by the company.

Balfour Beatty - SSE Main Office - Perth
IAS are accustomed to working with Top Tier contractors such as Balfour Beatty and SSE, on this project we were working with both clients. Balfour Beatty were appointed to renew the cladding on the main entrance to the SSE office in Perth, and IAS provided the access platform to allow them to carry out their work. The scaffold was designed to be free standing stepping under the canopy, secured to the existing columns with box ties and access to the roof.

Another high profile job in Dundee City Centre, just off the Perth Road providing access to allow a local contractor access to carry out remedial works to the facade of the iconic building. Shown here is Phase 1, detailing the lower section of the building including beams over the bridged access road with further phases to follow.

St Andrews - Band Stand
IAS Supplied and erect scaffolding to allow restoration works to the historically significant band stand in St Andrews, right behind the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse. Works are ongoing but we are sure the band stand will be looking brilliant when complete, looking out onto the first tee!

Caledonian House, 324 Union Street
Here at IAS we are accustomed to working around site specific issues built in busy streets, and few are busier than Aberdeen’s Union Street. Working alongside our client we have completed the first phase of a project to revitalize the façade of Caledonian House. A bespoke and complicated beam system transferred the loading away from the existing canopy allowing pedestrian access underneath, which was vitally important as the scaffold was erect on the run up to Christas.

Scaffold erected to a tenement block in York Terrace, Montrose to give safe working access for local contractor Mike Watt Construction on behalf of Angus Council to carry out rainwater good repairs to the block .

Aptus Construction, Dundee
A nice festive project photo to end the year! Aptus Construction are painting and renewing the Ramsden's building in Dundee High Street and IAS have provided the scaffolding to access all areas of the external facade. The scaffold has protective padding for members of the public to pass under the scaffold and Monoflex sheeting to allow the painting works to be confined to the working lifts within the scaffold.

4 Storey Access Scaffold to allow for roof repair works in Gardener Street, Dundee City. Secured Scaffolding with a Protective Deck of steel boards and foam Padding to keep memebers of the public safe from the works. Our heavy duty street pads are also hghly visible and ensure secure footing of the scaffold.

Justice Mill, Union Street, Aberdeen
Access Scaffolding for urgent roof repairs and asbestos surveys on Union Street, Aberdeen. IAS had to react to an urgent request following damage caused by adverse weather, this also allowed our client to carry out asbestos and other repair surveys. This required a quick turn around on coordination with the client and local authority to agree delivery and construction times, whilst ensuring the safety of the public. As this scaffold is free standing passed the last tie point due to the dormer windows this required engineering input from the in-house Engineering Department to ensure a structurally sound scaffold.

All Temporary Roofs and scaffolding requiring bespoke designs are designed by the IAS in-house design team.

Elsick, South of Aberdeen, is seeing some major investment just now and there are several ongoing housing sites. We are currently on-site providing Scaffolding Packages for several housing contractors including AJC and Places for People - building new, high-quality housing for the area.

Malmaison - Dundee
We have recently completed a large and complicated scaffolding package for the Malmaison Hotel in Dundee as part of a rejuvenation project. The project was required to work around the various nooks and crannies in the stonework, providing access to all the windows for painting. His involved a complex system of cantilever beams to access the port-hole windows on the Cupola.

Albert Square, Dundee City Centre
At IAS we work consistently in the centre of the Dundee, often having several large-scale projects erect at one time. At IAS we are consistently busy working in the more logistically complicated areas of town centres across Scotland. Shown here is one of our more recent projects erect across from the McManus Art Gallery and Museum in Dundee City Centre. The scaffold provides access for our client to carry out remedial works to the existing building, accessing the front faces and onto the roof for roofing and leadwork.

Another flag ship project in Aberdeen Union Street marking the start of construction of the New Aberdeen Market. Working on large scale projects with a close interaction with the public is one of IAS specialities. Another large, high profile local job in Broughty Ferry to allow re-roofing works to St Vincent’s Court for local contractor Alpha Projects. This was a large job over 200m in length by 3 storey high and was completed within 3 weeks. Once again a large, high profile job completed with close proximity to the public whilst adhering to all the strictest of safety measures.

Procast - City Road, Dundee
A recent project completed for long term client Procast, who have carried out Exterior Wall Insulation (EWI) and Re-Roofing works to hundreds of properties throughout Dundee, Fife and the East of Scotland. EWI works have been carried out on a large scale throughout Dundee to increase the heating efficiency of the properties and contribute to the global Net Zero targets.

Marshall Construction - Brown Street Student Accommodation
Following recent development in Dundee there is an urgent need for investment in student accommodation. IAS are currently scaffolding contractor on two large developments under development in Brown Street, Dundee. Shown here is the new, modern block constructed by Marshall Construction. The large-scale project incorporated elements of the existing buildings left over from the old industrial estate and was completed under a very tight programme, which we met for our client to ensure the project run smoothly from the start.

Telephone House, Dundee
IAS Dundee specialise in large scale scaffolding projects, with 3 ongoing within Dundee City Centre. This project for BSN Group is to redevelop and renovate the existing building on Bell Street/Court House Square for student accomodation. The large-scale project fully encapsulates the well-known Telephone House and is fully boarded to provide access to all external faces and the roof. Erecting scaffold on a busy through road that is the main entranceway to the Overgate Shopping centre poses significant challenges but through significant collaboration with our client and planning of the works the scaffold has been erect as planned.

DDC Abbotsford St
Dundee District Council have appointed IAS to provide safe access for carrying out roof works to this large tenement block in Abbotsford Street, Dundee. The stair access provides safe access to the roof, whilst the loading bays provide safe storage of materials. The brickguards provide protection for members of the public from falling materials, allowing working materials to be stacked on the platforms.

Ewan Archer - St Andrews
Scaffolding for local contractor Ewan Archer to carry out roofing works in Market St, St Andrews. The scaffolding provides safe access to the roof from the pavement, a rubbish chute for safe disposal of waste materials and protective padding for members of the public to still gain access through the scaffold.

Balunie Drive Re-Roofing
IAS have recently undertaken two large projects for Old Plean Roofing, who are currently carrying out Roof repair Works to tenement blocks on behalf of Dundee City Council. These works incorporated full roof edge protection for accessing the roof, gutters and soffits whilst providing a walkway so waste materials from the removal of the existing roof could be safely deposited in skips on the adjoining roads.

Fordell Reservoir
We have been undertaking works as part of major renovation works, for Scottish Water as part of their ongoing works servicing the existing network. Some of these tanks were built in the 1970’s and the prestressed concrete was in need of repair. We provided external access scaffold to the exterior to allow remediation works to be carried out. There was also extensive scaffolding inside the tank, that acted as both a propping system to the existing roof as the dimensions could not be ascertained due to the age of the drawings. This also allowed materials and access to be safely entered into the tank, and works to be carried out whilst transferring the roof loadings safely into the solum. IAS are experts at carrying out innovative, bespoke scaffold engineering solutions!

Mercat Cross Aberdeen
A “Mercat Cross” is a traditional Scots marker for the local market area of the Burgh, and have been in use since the 1100’s. The Aberdeen Mercat Cross was built in 1686 and is of significant cultural importance, built from sandstone with 6 arches comprising the base. The Mercat Cross is currently undergoing renovation and repair works, and IAS have provided access solution to allow these works to be carried out, following the curved nature of the structure without using physical ties into the structure for stability (paying particular care to the close proximity to the public).

AC Whyte - Pomarium St, Perth
IAS are currently undertaking the access requirements to fully enclose two blocks of flats at Pomarium St, Perth City Centre. This project was a quick turnaround for us tendering and securing the project, designing the scaffold and then on-site constructing the scaffold within 2 weeks. 6 weeks into the project Block 1 (shown) is fully finished, inspected and handed over to the client and Block 2 is 50% erect, showing the quick turnaround and high levels of productivity our client’s have come to expect from IAS.

Mitie - Dundee Road, Perth
Scaffolding for maintenance works, including windows, gutters and downpipes for a Housing Association. As you can see by the box junction access was complicated, however IAS will always look for the means possible to ensure our clients needs are met and constructed the scaffold through another access, without restricting the road and causing a nuisance for the public.

Luddon Construction are one of the UK’s leading construction firms. IAS have worked with Luddon on several project, here is one of our most recent projects. A full temporary works access system for access to the roof for inspection/remedial works on all elevations of the old Marks and Spencer’s at Gallagher Retail Park. IAS specialise in operating in partnership with several of the UK’s Blue Chip companies.

Mitie - Speygate
IAS specialise on working on “street jobs”, not just building sites. We were tasked with allowing access for maintenance works including windows, downpipes and gutters on this one-way street facing an adjoining car park. Following consultation with both our client and the local authority we were able to build this access platform whilst minimising disruption to the public and also ensuring all areas of the scaffold were suitable for the works.

IAS have recently completed two large Blocks of Flat in Perth for our Client AC Whyte & Co. In order to meet our clients programme and to allow the required trades access as soon as possible the projects were completed concurrently. This Aerial Drone Photo shows the scale of what can be achieved by our workforce in a short amount of time.

DDC Law Monument
The Law Monument in Dundee was constructed in 1925 to commemorate Dundee’s role in World War I. With a beacon on top, it’s lit to mark key dates, including Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. DDC is currently renovating the monument, repointing the joints to restore it to its former glory and extend its lifespan. IAS is delighted to be part of this project, helping restore such an iconic and important structure in our home city.
